Hi
Folks!
Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of year. Why? Because it is the magical time
of year when tradition dictates that you spend time putting life in
perspective. This is typically done by reflecting on the things, people, and
experiences that produce feelings of gratitude and appreciation.
When so much time is spent each year on acquiring more or worrying about not
having enough, it is refreshing to have a day set aside as a reminder to take
stock and count your blessings. Have you found yourself feeling a little down
lately? Are your thoughts centered from a place of lack? Are you feeling the
beginning of winter blues? If so, there is no time like the present to begin
your "Giving Thanks List".
Letting the feelings associated with gratitude surface is one of the best ways
to pivot from any negative emotions. Kind of like the "think happy
thoughts" exercise. Think of the people who make you smile, the people who
you are blessed to have in your life, the work that you thoroughly enjoy and
someone is foolish enough to be paying you to do, and last and surely not
least, the fact that you are able to be sitting here reading this article. Wow!
I bet I made you smile. See, it wasn't difficult and it works rather quickly!
The saying, "the joy is in the giving, not in the receiving" is never
truer than at Thanksgiving.
Since reflection can turn a mood around, why not share the wealth? Instead of
just taking pleasure from what has made life better, why not give some back?
Call up that friend who is always there for you and let him/her know how much
you appreciate them, or how about that teacher who inspired you to continue
your education that helped you land the job of a lifetime, or your parents,
children, or spouse who encourage, support, and motivate you. It is so easy to
take the people who you always see for granted, simply because they are always
there.
But what if they were not? Letting people know that they play an important role
in your life and that they are valued is one of the most precious gifts that
can be given. And it's FREE! It is funny how praise, gratitude, and
appreciation works. When you take the time to be generous with others, you
attract and therefore receive more.
As they say, "It's the season!" Remember that if you consciously,
intentionally, deliberately begin looking at all the things you appreciate and
are grateful for in your life, negativity will dissipate. In fact, who says
that Thanksgiving can only occur once each year? Use it as a "secret
weapon" whenever you need to pick yourself, or someone else up.
Happy Thanksgiving!
To your outrageous success,
Eva!
