SUCCESS: Ready, Set, Huddle

Before the start of a game and during a game its team members get together to huddle, to discuss strategy make a plan and determine execution. Business is not different. A successful business has the proper team assembled to carry out a business plan. Even a sole proprietor has a team, only that team is comprised of consultants that are hired to carry out specific tasks. In a way the sole proprietor has the right idea. Hire the person who is best suited to do the work that is required. In essence, the sole proprietor has delegated work to the members of a team who are working together to ensure the proprietor's success.

In sports, especially in basketball, the ideal combination of players is called a Dream Team. Why, because they appear to be perfectly balanced. A player that does lousy on the free-throw line, but is an amazing three-point shooter is paired with another who has great free-throw percentages, but has never scored from downtown. See how it works? In business it works much the same way. Only the criterion is a bit different. How does one assemble a true entrepreneurial 'dream team'?

It begins with synergy.

Synergy is an awesome word that means that the sum of all parts is greater than the whole. That is the beauty of a dream team. The value that each member of the team brings to the table is crucial to the overall success of the team. Synergy is the common element of the team. It is the strength that is formed from a shared vision, purpose and heart that each member of the team possesses.

Dream teams are built one person at a time. From a list is made of all of the people that are known and trusted. People that share values, ideas and goals. Or ones that are the yin to your yang. Dreams teams should consist of people that you don't mind working with, whose input you value, and who enjoy working with others for a common goal. Is the team easy to put together? It could be once you've identified the components of each successful team. In The One Minute Millionaire, Hansen and Allen discussed the research performed by Allen Fahden and Marie West as a tool to help the right team be assembled. According to West and Fahden, there are four main types of project driven work: Solutions, Strategies, Analysis and Results. They also state that there are four main types of workers: Hares, Owls, Turtles and Squirrels.

• Hares ... Generate Ideas

• Owls ... Prioritize and Plan Strategies

• Turtles ... Believe in Traditions, Proven Ideas, and Veto Risky Undertakings

• Squirrels ... Methodical, Detail-Oriented

Together, the four types of work are performed by the four types of workers. Thus, each ideal dream team should have members that like to do the four types of work, and whose spirits soar because their work is directly in line with their personalities. Just close your eyes and think for a moment.

Envision someone who is very organized. Are they results driven? Probably so, meaning they love to be able to cross that accomplishment off their list at the end of the day. 

Once your team is assembled, work should be distributed according to the passion of the individual members. Because the team is in perfect balance, every type of worker is accounted for, so each type of work should be covered by the ideal person to handle it. Thus, no one should be stuck with a job that they will truly despise. Can you imagine how much happier your team members will be when they are asked to do something that they truly enjoy, something that comes naturally to them, and fuels their passion? Think of how much success can be achieved just from this process alone.

A properly assembled dream team is the foundation to a successful business.

SUCCESS: Success Revisited

Have you achieved the level of success that you desire?

If the success that you envision has been elusive, perhaps the answer is not your goal, but your thoughts pertaining to your goal. One cannot achieve success without being committed to the task at hand ... no matter what the goal is. Without commitment one's ideas lack direction due to the inability to fully develop a strong path to follow, and ambitions never come to possess the burning desire that makes them a 'have to' instead of a 'maybe' or 'perhaps'. Commitment is the thing that gets us out on the water and puts wind in our sails so that we can successfully navigate around whatever obstacles that may surface. It puts us in the driver seat and sets us up for continued success. There is something addictive about setting your sights on a goal, working hard, and achieving the desired outcome. Commitment is the catalyst that produces concrete results.

But like everything else there are levels of commitment, and one-hundred percent commitment is necessary for real success. Anything less leaves room for vacillation which will eventually bring all forward progress to a standstill. Or worse, a lack of commitment could stop you from even starting a task. Jamie experienced the latter scenario first hand, and did not realize it until he had wasted a great deal of time and money.

Jamie had been thinking of expanding his business for the last six months. He read countless books, purchased new software, hired a new site designer, and lined up advertising. But no matter what he tried to implement, he was not achieving the expected results. After several weeks of this he sat down with his brother to try to isolate the difficulty. At the end of a lengthy discussion the brothers determined that the source of Jamie's problems was not what he was doing, but the fact that he was doing something that he really hadn't committed to. While he had taken the steps to expand his business, his heart wasn't in it because he hadn't been listening to his inner voice. His inner voice had been telling him that instead of adding more services, he should be finding and developing a niche for himself. When Jamie analyzed the situation, he stopped ignoring his inner voice and put a plan into action to develop the idea of finding his niche. Something he could really commit to! Within several weeks of recognizing his blocker he discovered a niche that he loved, was able to write awesome copy for his new website, and had the desire to learn the new software that had been sitting on his desk unopened. After months of spinning his wheels, a little insight and a commitment to following his passions has put Jamie on track for success.

Most important is the realization that when we commit to a task we are making a pledge to ourselves that should not be broken. People hesitate to break promises to others for fear of disappointment, well when half-hearted commitments to goals are made it's like breaking a promise to self. Should you treat yourself any differently than you would treat others? Repeated broken promises to others can create distrust and resentment. When multiple occurrences of lack of commitment to self-important goals take place, the result is distrust in one's ability and a poor self-esteem. Two things that should clearly not be sent out into the universe since like attracts like. Commitment is a gift, a pledge, a show of character and it should be thought of as an honor. It is an honor to ourselves for our ability to stand firm and follow through no matter what, and an honor to be bestowed on others ... the precious gift of a promise to deliver the very best. In either case you have the makings of success.

FOCUS: The Voice of Action

The voice that says "YES, this is the right decision", "No, let's pass on this", or even "Hmm, let's mull this over a bit." In each instance your voice within advises you to take action, even if it is in-action. But do you really listen to it, or do you scoff at the idea that you actually pay attention to your inner voice?

That voice is intuition. Your intuition is your guide, the one thing that you can truly count on that is always looking out for your best interest ... if you choose to listen for it, not intercept the message, and ACT on its direction.

But it's very easy to let your voice of intuition be clouded by other things. Fear, desire, self-doubt, and over-reasoning are all some of the many types of intuition blockers. Instead, trust that your intuition is your personal guide to the correct path for you at all times. Not just when your intuition falls in line with your thoughts on a subject. Turn off whatever limiting beliefs that may be overpowering your intuition.

Perhaps it's your belief that intuition is just "mumbo jumbo". It is easy to believe this because intuition is not thought of as a concrete thing. It is based on nonverbal things, feelings, unconscious thought, and instinct. This is definitely not a description for people who define things in black and white. Intuition is often looked at as gray. But it is not. Intuition is basically a synopsis of information that has been taken in through all of the senses, memory, subconscious, and reasoning. It is like a clear overview in Cliff Notes' format.

When your intuition speaks to you do you hear it? Do you know how to identify it? Your intuition typically kicks in when you are quiet. Many people find answers to their questions in the dreams, or when meditating. Others find them "out of the blue", when they are not looking for them. Many "feel" the right thing to do, or what the next course of action should be. There are many ways that your intuition will speak to you, and everyone's is unique.

How does one learn to trust their intuition? Like everything else, if it is practiced it becomes second nature. Allow yourself to consciously ask for the answers to something that you are seeking and write down the results when they occur. Visualize you unlocking a door and seeing your answer tumble from within.

Through repetition and proof, your confidence in your intuition will grow and it will become second nature to trust it automatically.

LAW OF ATTRACTION: The Law of Attraction

Are you aware of what a powerful creator you are? Do you know that everything that is happening to you or has ever happened to you is, without exception, in full response to your thoughts - and more importantly - the emotions behind those thoughts? Take a look at your life. There are probably some areas you're really happy with and some areas you're not so happy with. You may even believe you are a victim of your circumstances. I'm here to tell you, you are not a victim! It's simply a matter of understanding how to play the Game (of Life) by understanding the rules...the Laws that define the Game.

Would you agree that whether you believe in the law of gravity or not, it exists? It is the same with Universal Laws. They exist and affect you whether you are aware of them or not. However, Universal Laws are far more powerful than gravity. Gravity affects earth. Universal Laws are infinite and beyond all boundaries.

Of all the Laws, the single most powerful law is the Law of Attraction which says: "That which is likened unto itself is drawn" or more simply put, "Like attracts like". This means that what you are focused on, you draw to you. Here's how it works. When you are focused on what you want, you are attracting to you what you want. When you are focused on what you do not want, you are attracting to you what you do not want.

Okay, I can sense you rumbling out there and your thoughts are probably going something like "So if it's that simple and clear, why haven't we known this before?" Or, "I've been focused on wanting more money for years, so why hasn't it come to me?"

The Law is that simple. However, our thoughts are usually very unfocused and running in many directions at once. For example, you may say "I want a sleek new sports car." In that moment, the Universe is orchestrating circumstances and events to bring it to you. And yet, usually, in the same sentence, we sabotage ourselves by saying something like, "but I can't afford it." So, in essence, the Universal forces say, "Wait a minute. Now he says he can't afford it." And you stop the energy flow.

So, take it a step further. When you are thinking about wanting a new sports car, but feeling you can't afford it, where are your emotions vibrating? In most cases, they are vibrating in feelings of lack; feelings that you want something you really cannot have. Can you see how, by not understanding this Law - that our thoughts and emotions are our attraction base - we hold things away from us we could otherwise have?

Let's take the example of money. You say you've wanted more money for as long as you've been alive. When you think of wanting more money, how do you feel about it? Happy? Elated? Or frustrated? Angry? Sad? Maybe, jealous of those who do have money? In my experience, this particular subject has more people on an emotional roller-coaster than all other subjects combined. The good news is that it doesn't matter how long you've felt this way or how deeply...you can literally turn it around and begin flowing money to you by consciously and deliberately practicing the Law of Attraction through your thoughts and feelings.

Anything in your life you want to change, you can - simply by understanding the Law of Attraction, and choosing to deliberately change your thoughts and constantly reach for the thought that feels better. The way you predominantly feel about any given subject is your barometer for knowing what your balance of thought is on that subject. The circumstances of your life is another indicator. If you're ever wondering which end of the barometer your thoughts are on, check in with your emotions. Your emotions never lie about the way you are flowing your energy.

GOALS: Who Are You Truly?

When you look in a mirror who do you see? Is it really you? There is information being thrust on us daily about who we need to be or should be. You can look in magazines and see beautiful, rich, smart people. Is this who you need to be? Are you killing yourself everyday trying to match someone else’s ideal?

In a society where perfection is key, sometimes our goals and focus can be twisted. Achieving abundance and a rich and fulfilling life does not mean you have to reach a status that is sometimes unrealistic. Trying to achieve ideals that are not attuned to who you truly are can cause stress, anxiety and unhappiness. It can make you crazy and miserable.

The key to a fulfilling life is attuning according to who you truly are. It is that image in the mirror, naked and unadorned that is your true self. Sometimes we try to deny, ignore or even suppress our true selves. When you set goals according to a set of ideals that is not truly your own, it can leave you with a sense of emptiness and loss.

In order to tap into the Source of who you are, you must look deep within your heart. In Shakespeare’s Hamlet is the line “This above all: to thine own self be true.” Wiser words were never written. You have to be true to your heart and true to who you truly are inside.

Part of being true to your self is self love and self acceptance. You must see that image of yourself and surround it with all the love in your heart. If you can accept who you are and love your self then others will follow suit.

Once you align yourself, your life’s path and purpose will become clear. It is this alignment that can help you create the most fulfilling and exciting life. The first step is deciding who is looking back at you in the mirror.

SUCCESS: Close Your Eyes and Dream

Despite what Wes Craven would have you believe, dreams cannot harm you, but they can help you immensely. Not the ones you have when you're sleeping, but the ones you hold in your heart ... your fondest desires. Those dreams can shape your reality if you take the time to give them life ... to visualize them. Do you ever wonder about the self-confidence that successful people always seem to have? It's that self-confidence that got them where they wanted to be. They focused on the goal and the mind and body made it happen.

Do you ever "what if"? Instead of playing "what if", why not play "I am". How does one play? It all comes back to be-ing. You can be what you want if you can picture yourself being it, living it, experiencing it. Close your eyes, relax, and imagine that you ARE the successful ______, and that you live in the beautiful __________, overlooking _________. You have a wonderful life. You are able to relax and enjoy life to the fullest. You are content and all of your worries are gone. Use all 5 of your senses.

Elaborate from there. What kind of house do you live in? Where is it located? Is this your summer home? What does the air smell like when you arrive at your home? Is it by the sea? Is it in the country?

Can you see it clearly? How does it make you feel? Do you feel like it is really yours? Do you feel as though you've earned it, that you deserve all that you are visualizing? This too is part of the process. When your feelings are one with your thoughts and beliefs, and they are focused on the positive goals that you have set, the picture that you are holding in your mind's eye ... they will begin manifesting. In essence, you've used your thoughts to attract the people, ideas, situations, etc. that will bring you the vision that you are holding of yourself. Thus creating your reality.

Bridget was feeling exceptionally low when a friend suggested that she schedule a session with a personal coach. She was hesitant and skeptical, thinking that there was not anything that her coach could tell her that she hadn't already thought of, envisioned, or dreamed of herself. She found that she was both right and wrong in her assumptions. When she met Dora she was impressed by how grounded she was and by how much they had in common. She also found out that a couple of years ago before Dora discovered coaching, that she was feeling adrift and had a business that was floundering. Bridget readily identified with this because her gift shop had been doing so poorly lately, that she had a number of creditors calling looking for payment. Dora told her that she used visualization to obtain her goals. Bridget scoffed at the idea. But when Dora explained that someone told her that if she could not visualize herself as a success that she would never be a success ... it began to make sense. Bridget didn't think she thought of herself as a failure, but realized that she also did not think of herself as a success.

Bridget spent 15 minutes twice a day visualizing herself running a successful business, living in the house of her dreams and living a debt free life. After a few weeks, she noticed the change in the level of confidence she had in her abilities. She approached her business dealings with more self-confidence which in turn began to increase her bottom line. Her increase in confidence made her much more attentive to her customers which produced larger sales. With Dora as her coach, Bridget used her dreams to obtain her reality. She visualized, imagined, spoke about and wrote down her goals to support her state of be-ing. She refused to back down and allow limiting thoughts to tarnish her future.

If Bridget could do it, so can you. Let go of the limiting thoughts and begin by embracing the life that you want, desire, and deserve. Let the picture you see in your mind support your goals and you will help them materialize that much faster. Let your dreams be the guide to your future and the road to your success. You just have to close your eyes and ... DREAM.

GOALS: Soar To Freedom

Can you feel it? The freedom to live life as you choose? To make decisions  based on your desires instead of necessity? The opportunity to live life to the  fullest and experience all of the things that you thought were out of reach?  Does this sound too good to be true? It's not!

Freedom is available to you at any time ... even now. When you decide to pursue  a lifestyle full of freedom, you make a commitment to be successful in your  life dealings to W-I-N at all you endeavor. Like everything, it begins with  you.

                   

HAPPINESS: Live Life Fully

Are you just making it through the day? Are you just glad to lay your head on the pillow at night thankful that the day is over only to begin to dread that you have to get up tomorrow and face the whole mess again?  

If you answered yes, then you may not be truly living your life fully, you may just be surviving. Sometimes it is hard to break from that mold of your everyday routine. It may even seem as though life has beaten you down. It is only an illusion you have created for yourself that limits your full potential.
